Under the new EU measure on digital driver cards, after 15 June 2019, only new types of so-called second generation (GEN2) digital tachograph cards will be issued by the competent authorities of the Member States. However, the Ministry of Innovation and Technology has indicated that it is unlikely that GEN2 cards will be available until September 2019, so cards that expire in the next 3-4 months will need to be renewed before 15 June 2019. Employed drivers are requested to check the expiry date of their digital driver cards and if the card expires within the three-month period indicated above, the driver should urgently contact one of the relevant Government Offices to book an appointment for the issuance of the cards. When making the appointment, please inform the Government Office that you wish to renew the digital driver card that expires during the above-mentioned period, so that you do not have problems in continuing to work during the transitional period.
